Commercilization of Mushroom Farming- Group of Enterprenuer

Oyster mushrooms has several health benefits, it promotes well-functioning of heart and immune system, encourage healthily blood sugar level and provide antioxidant & anti-inflammatory efforts. It is also loaded with fibre, vitamins, minerals, and other essential nutrients. Assam is a place where the availability of fresh mushrooms is significantly less. Mainly mushrooms are exported from outside states i.e., Delhi, Karnataka, UP etc. But these products are not fresh mushrooms. Mostly, the button variety of the mushroom is available in the market. Even people are not much aware of oyster mushrooms. 

Considering the above stated facts, in the year 2021, with support from ‘Formation and promotion 10,000 FPOs programme of the Ministry of Agriculture and Famers Welfare (MoA&FW), GoI’ SDS has mobilised the farmers of Chhaygaon Block of Kamrup District with support from KVK (Krishi Vigyan Kendra) Assam and formed a farmer producer organisation named “Maa Chandka Farmer Producer Company Limited”. Multi crop FPO was formed with particular emphasis on mushroom and Arecanut cultivation. 

Earlier the farmers are involved in mushroom cultivation but there are many gaps which hindered the production and marketing of these produces. Mainly, lack of technical skill & knowledge, getting good quality of spawn, customers awareness towards mushroom cultivation and marketing. All the mushroom farmers come under one umbrella through the FPC. In convergence with the KVK, Kamrup the farmers received a technical training on mushroom farming.

 

The farmers can produce a large amount and good quality mushrooms. Early FPC used to sell mushroom in their locality but due to a large amount of production the consumption of mushrooms there is huge gap in demand and supply. So, they decided to introduce the fresh mushroom in Guwahati city. The FPC partnered with NEFRESH to sell their product in Guwahati city. In the last season (January to March), FPC produced 4123 kg of fresh mushroom. Out if which 454kg of mushroom sold at Guwahati market. Apart from fresh mushroom, the FPC producing various value-added product i.e., mushroom powder, dried mushroom and mushroom pickle. 

FPC really worked hard to commercialize mushroom production. The objective is to supply mushroom through the year. Considering the challenge, the FPC is constantly working with KVK, Kamrup to avail different varieties of the mushroom. Hoping to cater to new geography from coming months.
